Is it a Goal? No, it’s a Gola!!

Where would we be without our trainers, eh? Well it’s Gola we have to thank for them. Not only because of their classic range of shoes but because it was originally Gola that came up with the phrase ‘trainer’ as a derivitave of the words training shoe.

Gola is an English sporting goods manufacturer. It was founded on 22nd May 1905 in Leicester, England. No one 100% knows where the name Gola comes from, not even Gola themselves according to their website, but it is generally understood that the word Gola is an anagram of the word Goal which might go someway to explaining the company’s long running association with Football.

In the early 2000’s Gola relaunched themselves as a ‘retro’ sports fashion brand. This was a clever move as they were then able to sell their disinctive brand to the same people, now grown up, who fondly remembered the brand from their childhood. Gola’s media presence in the past has always been high. Sports personalities of the past that had a Gola association include Bill Shankly’s Liverpool football team, the World’s strongest man for two years running Geoff Capes, Middleweight boxing champion Alan Minter and even the comic book legend Roy of the Rovers.

Despite it’s routes to the past Gola remain as high profile as ever. Gola is the footwear of choice for many people in the public eye including the Modfather himself Paul Weller, Robbie Williams, Jude Law and both Liam and Noel Gallagher.

StreetFeet is proud to announce this week that this classic brand has now made it’s grand entrance onto StreetFeet soil. Fred Perry at StreetFeet

It’s been a busy week here at the StreetFeet HQ with new product arriving in seemingly all directions. Our photographer has been busy snapping away like a big snappy thing and not a second has gone by without a new style seemingly hitting our stores. This week we were very proud to see the return of the legendary Fred Perry range of tennis style trainers. Frederick John Perry was born in Cheshire in 1909 and is of course famous for being the World Number One tennis player for 5 years, 4 of them consecutive years between 1934 and 1938. Streetfeet are now carrying a great selection of Fred Perry Shoes & Trainers in store like the Fred Perry Kingston Twill shoes, Fred Perry Coxon Canvas Shoes and the retro styled Fred Perry Vintage Tennis Canvas trainers.

We all adore-a Diadora

‘It’s too orangey for crows it’s just for me and my dawg!’. Ahh! Who else remembers the old Kia-Ora advert? It’s been going through my head all this week. Not that I’m a fan of fruit based carton packaged drinks or anything. Nor because I’m a fan of Edgar Wright’s fantastic tv series Spaced from which that phrase was quoted famously by Simon Pegg in the second series. No the reason that phrase keeps popping in my head is because of the last line of that advert. ‘We all adore-a Kia-Ora!’ which I have been constantly changing to ‘We all adore-a Diadora!’ all this week due to the fact that StreetFeet have just had an awesome delivery of some great new styles from Diadora.

The Diadora trainer label stems back to the 1970s, initially worn by players like Roberto Bettega, the Diadora Brand became a classic label. During the 80s casual scene Diadora Trainers became uniform along with Adidas Trainers and Puma Trainers. The 80s casuals Borg Elite or ‘terrace lads’ started sporting the classics like the Diadora Borg Elite and the Diadora Equipe Trainers. Streetfeet are pleased to stock these classics again in premium leathers with antique finishes to give that lived in antique feel.

Vintage Trainers return in time for Vintage Goodwood

For those not in the know the StreetFeet offices are based in the heart of the small market city of Chichester. The people of Chichester are getting pretty excited this weekend due to the Vintage Festival taking place at Goodwood (just outside of Chichester). The vintage festival is the first festival of its kind and is a celebration of British culture from the 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s. The festival runs for three days on the 13th, 14th and 15th August and features a host of popular DJ’s, bands, collectors, vintage clothing, vintage films and vintage records.

Iconic Puma 917 Trainer returns to StreetFeet

If you were to compare a pair of trainers to a car you could easily say the Puma 917 is the Porsche of its field. Not only are they one of the coolest styles on the block they are actually based on one of the coolest of cars specifically a car driven by one of the coolest film stars to have ever set foot on the planet. The Puma 917 range are stylistically based the Porsche 917 racing car as driven by Steve McQueen in his 1971 film, ‘Le Mans’. If the template is this good how can the shoe fail. Replicating the Porsche’s gracefulness, speed and style the 917 is no disappointment.

World Cup Final Competition

Competition Time! Yes folks it’s Friday afternoon and we here at StreetFeet are doing one of our world famous competitions. Wimbledon may be over but this weekend is the World Cup Final between the Netherlands and Spain which is why we are putting together one of our best competition prizes yet. The prize for this competition is to win an awesome Street-Feet goody bag which I’m reliably informed will feature items up to the value of £200. We are picking these items as we speak but we can promise you there is going to be some great stuff in there. Due to the nature of the prize I’m afraid we can only send to addresses in the UK only.

It’s been a busy week here at Street-Feet.com. Here at our Chichester office we have spent most of this week adding new products to our online shop. As we all know Wimbledon for the Brits is now over however there is a cracking final ahead of us tomorrow against Rafael Nadal and Tomas Berdych. My money, personally, is on Rafa. As we here at StreetFeet have been running Wimbledon competitions all this week we have decided to do one more competition to celebrate the final. Yes folks, Andy Murray will today be facing the mighty Rafael Nadal in the Wimbledon Semi Final and to celebrate this event StreetFeet will once again be running a competition to coincide with this event. In the same manner as our Quarter Final competition we would like you to guess the running time of todays Semi Final match.
