Music and films, that’s what it’s all about for me if I’m honest. I know what I look for in a brand. I look for something I can relate to and, for me, if I can find a way for that to relate that to films or music then all for the better. The Original Penguin brand is no different whether that be Frank Sinatra doing it his way on the piano, Dean Martin singing a classic whilst making with the jokes and sipping on a cool whisky, Clint Eastwood perhaps whilst polishing his magnum for later use on some unsuspecting punk, Bob Hope generally just cracking wise or maybe, just maybe, something more up to date featuring the likes of Brad Pitt or Jake Gylenhall. Why am I mentioning those people? Because at some point or other these people have all been known for wearing the penguin brand. Essentially the original penguin brand epitomises a cool aesthetic. Even past presidents of the United States (Richard Nixon) have been know to pick up a Penguin.
The Original Penguin brand was very first introduced to an unsuspecting world back in the mid fifties (1955) by Munsingwear, a Minneapolis-based underwear and military garment store. However the brand itself was conceived a year previous to this by a Munsingwear salesman who was covering the northeast coast who had stopped by a taxidermist shop and bought a stuffed penguin whilst on the way to a Munsingwear meeting to discuss a logo for a new range of golfing shirts that were to go up against the lacoste range of popular T-shirts. After this meeting ‘Pete the Penguin’ was born and the rest, as they say, is history. The original Penguin brand was born.
Here at Street Feet we are proud to be a part of this little bit of history. It is with great pleasure and honour to know that by selling the Original Penguin brand we are helping to keep that history alive.
