The Asics Onitsuka brand was founded in 1949 by Kihachiro Onitsuka with a view to bring a healthy lifestyle to young people.
Like the Adidas Superstar the Asics Tiger started as a basketball shoe.
Onitsuka used inspiration from nature specifically the Octopus for the grip on the sole unit, this design was initially so effective that testers were sticking to the floor!
In 1960 the Nippon 60 was developed for the Rome Olympics featuring the classic rising sun. In 1966 the brand logo was developed into the brand we know today , this was added to the MEXICO 66 line and a classic was born. The Asics Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 remains a classic shoe that is still in big demand to this day. Most recently the yellow and Black Onitsuka Tiger was featured in the Quinten Tarentino Movie 'Kill Bill'
